Bridging the Gap: The Separation Between Christ and the Church | Goldsby Law
In the early hours of December 28, 2023, I awoke from a profound revelation from God through a dream that left my spiritual eyes wide open. I was getting married! Seeing that I am engaged to be married in a few months, this dream wasn't a surprise. In fact, I have dreamt of my own wedding many times, seeing myself walking down the aisle in my white wedding dress. However, this particular dream wasn’t about me and my wedding, but rather was symbolic of the wedding and sacred union between Jesus Christ and His church.
Picture this: I’m standing in a murky swamp, walking and navigating through dark, dirty green waters, weighed down by a voluminous wedding dress. The impending wedding ceremony at the forefront of my mind, I struggled against the mud, sticks, and water to reach my destination on time. Despite every effort, I couldn’t get there on time. I was late to my own wedding! When I finally arrived, I was disheveled. There was no way I was ready to get married with a dirty wedding dress, messy hair, and smeared makeup. At that moment, the wedding planner suggested postponing the ceremony to the following day—significantly, the groom's birthday!
Wow! Some of you reading this may already discern the spiritual significance of this dream, but the revelation became clear as God communicated His message to me: a warning to the body of Christ about the separation between the church and Jesus Christ due to our flesh and sin. Exodus 23:32-33 reminds us, ”Do not make a covenant with them or with their gods. Do not let them live in your land or they will cause you to sin against me, because the worship of their gods will certainly be a snare to you.” These covenants can lead us away from God’s promises.
Our flesh and sin act as barriers to God's promises and prevent the church from fully receiving the covenant with Christ. 2 Corinthians 6:14 instructs us against yoking ourselves with unbelievers, asking “what fellowship can light have with darkness?” The answer is nothing good! Just as my journey to the wedding was impeded by the swamp, our journey is impeded when we make compromises and covenants that deviate from God's approval.
To ensure everyone is clear on what the covenant is between Christ and the church, let’s turn our attention to Galatians 3:16. “The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed, ”meaning one person, who is Christ.” This verse explains that the promises spoken to Abraham were manifested through Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the manifestation of the promise given to Abraham.
And this is where the dream got really interesting because it was the rescheduling of the wedding ceremony to coincide with the groom's—Jesus Christ's—birthday that really got me excited! The covenant does not and cannot exist without the birth of Jesus Christ. This means the true purpose of the birth of Jesus Christ was to fulfill the Abrahamic Covenant. Christ was born for US, a divine gift through covenant (marriage) to ensure the fulfillment of God's promise.
Despite the initial setback and separation between us and Christ, the dream conveyed a powerful truth: Jesus Christ's birthday became the new date for our covenant. It serves as a reminder that, regardless of the distance we create, NOTHING can separate us from the love of God. This was a gift. A second chance. But just as the bride and groom in marriage have to affirm their vows with an “I do” we must also say “yes” to Christ through salvation and repentance.
Our covenant with Christ is a priceless gift meant to be unwrapped, not squandered. Will we allow the enemy to steal this precious gift, or will we rise above the separation, walk in faith, and cast off the sin and distractions staining our wedding garments. The time is now! Will you say "I do"?
